With
his bright young mind and his good looks,
Ram Vaswani easily ranks amongst the most
charismatic players in the international poker
circuit. He is reputed to have raked in more
than $2 million in his tournament winnings
alone. Plus he makes a tidy packet every year
from his TV appearances and through the popular
poker websites that he runs in collaboration
with his partners. Vaswani's fame as a poker
player is built on the backs of major wins
in the most valued poker tournaments. Many
poker experts believe that he is Europe's
best all round tournament player.
His major
victories include: 1st place in the 1999 Master
Classics of Poker worth $130,934, 1st place
in the 2002 Euro Finals of Poker European
Hold'em Championship taking home $92,232, and
2nd place in the Victor Poker Cup Grand Final
collecting $231,413 in prize money. Recently,
Ram Vaswani took 3rd place in the Third Annual
Five-Star World Poker Classic No Limit Hold'em
event cashing in $101,230. In the 2002 World
Series he came second and third in two World
Championship events and followed that up with
an impressive three WSOP finals in 2004.
It is said that gambling runs into Ram Vaswani's
blood. He will bet not just at the poker table,
but also on anything that moves. Betting on
dog races is one of his favorites. It was while
placing bets on dog racing that Vaswani met
Joe Beevers in Luton and they later set up a
private poker club together. Later the two would
team up with Barny and Ross Boatman. Together,
the four became known as The Hendon Mob and
they traveled the tournament circuit under sponsorship
and made a name for themselves as a group of
top-notch poker players in Europe and America.
Soon Vaswani earned the nickname The Looks,
because of his status as the best looking member
of The Hendon Mob. But Vaswani has another nickname
that he prefers to use more often, and that
is Crazy Horse. There is not much to see when
you are watching Ram "Crazy Horse"
Vaswani play poker. With his face completely
expressionless and body absolutely stoic, it
is impossible to read what is going on in his
mind. Ram maintains an edge over the competition
by staying fit and training before major tournaments
to increase his stamina for long multi-day events.
The strange thing is that before becoming a
poker prodigy, Vaswani was an avid snooker player.
He would probably still be playing that game
if he hadn't discovered his even more prolific
talent for tournament poker. Well, snookers
loss is pokers gain. Ram considers himself a
man of destiny and he always believed that he
would be a world champion. He says that his
success in poker is "nailed on", "it
is destiny". Coming from him it isn't arrogance
or bravado; it is his natural confidence in
his abilities and luck at the game that he loves
dearly. Ladies, unfortunately for you Ram is
married and has a daughter named Hollie. |
