Interviews Nadia Dawn

A new dawn has broken in the Hollywood firmament and she goes by the name of Nadia Dawn. A descendant of Guyanese and Indian heritage, she oozes oomph from every pore of her body. A slow and steady rise is surely not her sort of thing; hot and talented Nadia is a classic fast mover. She believes in delivering a breathtaking performance in whatever she does – whether it is co-producing her own series, hosting red carpet events, or starring in movies. These days she is the most talked about face of Bud Ice's poster model for Anheuser-Busch. In addition she co-wrote, co-produced and hosted the popular reality show Super Model Showdown. The premise of this thirteen part series, filmed in the Costa Rican jungle, is America's Next Top Model meets Survivor. She is set to host the fashion segment of the Emma Awards (www.emma.tv) on BBC World, where Jennifer Lopez, Oprah Winfrey, Brad Pitt, and Bill Clinton are just a few of the special guests.

When did you make your first foray into the modeling world?
I started young, in 1999 when I was only 18. You're into so many things from modeling to hosting TV shows to co-producing your own series, to acting in films, how do you juggle it all? I'm ambitious and I need different challenges to keep me going. I yearn to be successful and happy. You can say that I am greedy for success. That's just the way I am. I don't think I would ever be able to deal with the monotony of a regular 9 to 5 job. My philosophy is that we control our destiny and every day we're writing new pages of our own book. Coming from a small town in Canada, has your family reacted positively to your sexy image and the attention that you get? My dad was born in New Delhi. My mom is Guyanese and they met in England, finally they settled down in Canada, where I was born. Initially my dad wasn't happy with my career choice, being from India and seeing your daughter in a swimsuit isn't cool! But it is to their credit that they never tried to impose their own views on me. These days my father even uses my posters to show off to other girls. He is really proud of me now.

Was it tough to get started?
It was tough during the initial days. I started modeling in Toronto, which is a limited market for minorities. A recurring problem that I faced was that I kept getting bracketed as the ethnic girl. I only got the part if they had a token ethnic role to fill. I had to really struggle a lot in order to carve a wider niche for myself.

I'm looking for Mr. Right.
Are you out there?

Were you forced to compromise in order to get ahead?
A lot more doors would have opened up if I had agreed to flash some T & A (tits and ass) but I refused. I never compromised my morals. I can now look back at the days of struggle with a sense of satisfaction. How do you manage a booming career and relationships? I think that I am capable of managing both - career and relationship. In fact, Fonda, my dear friend, an exboyfriend, has helped me a lot throughout my career and has been my biggest supporter. Without him I couldn't of achieved what I have today. But I am glad to be single once again, because a relationship prevents you from devoting your full concentration to your career. Emotionally it's hard to juggle both when you're aiming for the top. I want people to realize what I have been through and to outsiders it must look like I've had an easy ride, so I'm writing a book entitled Suitseer (Suitseer means believing that everything will work itself out in the end without actually seeing and knowing the end result). I'm also writing a screenplay, starring in movies, producing and much more. I prefer to be in a relationship with someone who can inspire me with his positive energy. In the past, some of my ex boyfriends tried to control me, now I am done with those kind of guys and look forward to meeting Mr. Right? Are you out there? Hello!!

Nadia Dawn

How are you handling the attention?
The attention you get makes you kind of weary. I wonder if people like me for who I am or if they are just trying to use me. I don't want to tell people what I have going on because 1) they will get jealous and give me the evil eye! (lol), 2) they will think I'm lying, or 3) they will think I'm bragging. One bad thing about the beginning of success is that it becomes harder to make friends you can trust. I'm at the point where people try to use my name for their own gain. They make fake websites or profiles online and use my name. However, getting attention just for the sake of it should not be your goal. The main thing for any individual is that you should be passionate about your work. The most important thing is to follow your heart. People who do that are usually the ones that end up being famous. Have you ever been struck by anxiety regarding.

More doors would have opened
up if I flashed some T & A.

When did guys really start noticing you?
Since I was 13, I got hit on constantly. As frequently as 10 to 15 times per day! Unfortunately, it isn't hunks that hit on me but rather older men that I would never be attracted to. (Laughs)

Is it true that fit people have better sex lives?
It depends on whether you love the person you're having intimacy with. If you really care about them, then the "intimacy" will be fantastic.

Have you ever been struck by anxiety regarding your career or anything else in your life?
I too, just like anyone else gets anxiety, fear, and depression. My friend Patti Penn has been a great help to me. She helped
me overcome these issues with Reki and EFT (http://www.pause.me.uk). She showed me ways of tapping energy that is within all of us, but is not readily known. Also, I frequently attend the Agape International Spiritual Center and think Michael Bernard Beckwith (http://www.agapelive. com), is an astounding character. It's a new wave church that I am hooked on. He was the speaker from the Secret and has been interviewed by Oprah Winfrey and Larry King. I will be interviewing him later this week for a station I work for entitled 2.0 Television (http://2.0television.com).

What's your best asset?
Physically, my lips because they're real. Mentally, my persistence. If something doesn't go my way or if I get dismayed I find another road and eventually get what I want.

What is a typical day like for you?
There is hardly any set routine. I can be partying at the Roosevelt Hotel or going to a Red Carpet event. Every day is exciting in its own way. You can't predict the future so you have to have faith that everything will work itself out. A lot of people want security in their lives so they work a 9 to 5 job. One side of me wants to party and the other side is sensible. You have to stick to the sensible side the majority of the time. I'm going to be in the media a lot more in the next few months so I have to make the right decisions. I know the right thing to do but that doesn't mean I always follow it. I do make mistakes and date the bad boys, party a lot and eat things I shouldn't be eating, but realize that everything is fine in moderation - well not that bad boys part. (Laughs)

What trait do you think is most important in determining someone's attractiveness?
When I was younger I thought to be sexy all you had to be was tall, dark and handsome. Now, I want someone who is also spiritual, motivated, smart, confident, successful, an entrepreneur and considerate. Spontaneity is also important. I think that's it! Good luck right! Oh and they can't be cheap. They can't say, "You ate the ginger you pay the tip, or I'm going to buy you one drink! (Smiles)

Is their any model, producer or actor whom you consider your role model and whose career you'd like to emulate?
I want to blaze my own path, but there are some people in the industry that I really admire. Oprah Winfrey is a hero to me. She was poor and abused as a child. Now she has her own network and is one of the richest and most influential women in the world. I also ran into Jennifer Hudson and she's another amazing person. She went from working at Burger King, to being a contestant on American Idol, and eventually winning an Oscar. These women are amazing and never conformed to the standards of being super thin in Hollywood and still made it for themselves.

What's the wildest thing you've ever done?
There's so many to list just one. When I was younger there was this guy who cheated on me so I decided to get revenge on him. I told him I loved him so much and wanted to marry him. I made him buy me a ring and once he did, I moved to France. I sold the ring to fund my trip. Among other wild things that I have done – there is scuba diving and bungee jumping. But the wildest thing that I have done is moving into Los Angeles without even knowing anybody. I found an apartment online and researched the city on the Internet. Then I just packed my bags and moved with just little old me, a goal, faith and tunnel vision.

Have you ever been in an embarrassing situation?
I was on a hedonism trip once. There were people dancing on stage and they urged me to dance in front of so many people. There was a dance routine that we had to follow, but I just couldn't do it. I think some people even booed. The sequence of events was quite embarrassing to me.

What are your plans for the next 5-10 years?
Well, I will have six to seven films coming out within the next few years. My book will be written and I will direct my first picture. But, eventually I want to get married, have kids, and open a fondue restaurant in Toronto. But let's not get it twisted; I want to make a mark in this world and be known as a positive influence on the ethnic community. I really think I am the only Indian actor out here that doesn't speak Hindi and isn't in Bollywood! I'm ready to be positive for us!

What is your favorite vacation destination?
Cabo San Lucas or Greece. Finish this line - "Nice guys always _________ " Don't get the prize. Just kidding I know they will. I've grown up!

Nadia Dawn

Boxers or Briefs?
Boxers

Who do you want to share an explicit scene with?
Terrence Howard!!!!!!!!!

Tell us about your new film H.N.I.C. and the role you play?
I act alongside Prodigy, Rick Gonzalez and Hansen Johnson. I play a character named Tonya from the Bronx. Tonya is a ghetto girl who used to work in a brothel. The film will be shot in Miami and NYC and is slated to start shooting in December.

What's the craziest thing that happened on Super Model Showdown?
I don't want to go too deep into this, but let's just say there was a girl who REALLY wanted to win.

Do you hold any ambition to act in a Bollywood movie?

My dad wanted to teach me Hindi once but I refused. Now I wish I had, because knowledge of Hindi would have proved invaluable for Bollywood movies. I auditioned for a movie with Kal Penn. I was supposed to play a traditional Indian wife in that film. But the director found me too sexy for the role, although he did say I'm very talented! AHHH. OK, yes but if you dress me down, a little bit of make-up and I can do it! I was thinking of getting a breast reduction

so people would take me more seriously. We take you seriously so please don't do that.
