Her
long legs, full red lips, curvaceous body and
striking deep pools of pitch black eyes, make
Kim Sharma seem to melt any man's heart. With
a beauty like hers she does not even need the
benefit of a family name to make it big in Bollywood.
Born on January 21st 1980, she was doing her
schooling from a boarding school in Panchgani,
when on a trip to Mumbai she decided to audition
for the close-up ad. Luckily she was selected
and after that there was no looking back for
her. In the high-octane world of modeling she
proved her mettle by developing fast. Her close-up
ad was followed by other commercials for big
companies such as Sunsilk, Pepsi, Tata Safari,
Ponds, Fair & Lovely, Clean-n-Clear and
Liril.
While completing her modeling assignments she
also tried her hand on music videos like Lata
Mangeshkar's Paayoji and Ali Haider's Purani
Jeans. Kim's movie break came, when she bagged
a lead role in the film Mohabbatein. Lucky for
her, the movie turned out to be a super hit
and Kim's performance drew rave reviews from
appreciative audience as well as critics. From
there her career has germinated at an astonishing
speed. Her memorable lead roles in films like
Kehta Hai Dil Bar Bar and Tumse Achha Kaun Hai
have immortalized her as a Bollywood heroine.
The brainy sex appeal and old-fashioned glamour
that Kim brings to the screen, has directors
and producers salivating to cast her in their
films.
The most commendable fact about this doe eyed
beauty is that she plans to progress in Bollywood
on strength of her acting talent and not by
indulging in burlesque skin show. To be featured
in an international men's magazine like Maxim
isn't anything small, but when asked to pose
in some revealing pictures she adamantly refused.
Almost similar is her attitude about exposing
in films. If her role requires her to expose,
then she will do it, but she will not strip
only to the sake of a voyeuristic skin show.
When quizzed about the basis on which she decides
to do a particular film Kim says, "For
me the most important is the director. It doesn't
have to be a big director, it can be a new director,
but somewhere down the line mentally I have
to feel a connection because I'm more of a director's
actress. I would perform for the person; unless
the person doesn't get it out of me I couldn't
care less. Second comes the role. I'm not saying
I want to do arty roles where I am the central
focus of the film. It may as well just be six
songs, it may be like a David Dhawan film which
is fine with me." Her recently released
film Tom, Dick and Harry, may not have done
that well at the box office but it certainly
won her accolades for her memorable role. In
the movie, Kim plays the role of a fisher woman
called Bijlee. Bijlee is a funny and completely
loud character, who abuses everyone, talks in
Marathi and picks up fights on the smallest
of pretexts. Dino plays her love interest in
the film. The grapevine has it that before the
shooting of the film began the director, Deepak
Tejori, made Kim visit the fish market everyday
just to let her have an idea about the mannerisms
of a typical fisher woman. It is completely
like her to heap fulsome praise on Deepak Tejori,
"I had a wonderful time with him,"
she says. "He is very sweet person and
I got along with him well. He really used to
pamper me on the set. He gave me a lot of scope.
He is a fabulous director. I am really fond
of him."
With a spate of big banner films lined up for
release, Kim's career can only move in one direction
– upwards. But it is the graph of her
love life that is making as much news as her
film career. It is being reported that the cricketing
sensation Yuvraj Singh is besotted to Kim and
the two are planning to tie the knot in near
future. |
